Shout out to my best friend, Delilah P. Strickland! She just completed Law School! I will be getting my friend back in just a few weeks once she takes the bar exam!

Her only request was that I be there to do her makeup and lashes. Go figure :-)

I was on a shoot a while back and worked with a woman who obviously had not gotten a brow grooming prior to the shoot. Due to time and budget constraints, I was not able to groom them, but they weren't horrible. Usually, I can work some "makeup magic" and make them look even and shaped. I noticed after I was done she was in the mirror and decided to razor them herself....HOLD UP! If you don't like something a makeup artist does to your face, it is okay and preferred for you to say something politely (unless you're a model/actor and that is what the director wants). Letting the artist know will help you AND help them, but that is another post!

There is nothing wrong with doing a quick clean up with tweezers in between brow maintenance visits, but please do not attempt to create-a-brow on your own. I do not recommend using a razor on yourself at any time. There are a number of reasons regarding hair growth issues, but all in all, it just isn't safe! I see too many people with OOPS written across their lower foreheads from using a razor.

I cannot stress this enough! I am very picky about my own brows and only get them threaded every other month or professionally maintained with tweezers by a highly trained brow expert (I highly recommend www.raedawnj.com if you are in NYC). I actually like and embrace my full brows. In between visits I will tweeze a hair or two. I actually know how to shape my brows, but there is a certain level of anxiousness one gets when its time to attack the brows. Many people just go HARD and they take off too much and make them too thin. Besides if you continually remove hairs-creating shapes that truly don't suit your face-your hair may not grow back. If you have a steady hand and a good eye...go for it, but if you are trying to save a couple bucks by being in the mirror "razoring" away, I beg you to stop.

I am never the one to tell someone how they "should" look, but there is much truth to "brows are the frame of your face." My professional advice as a makeup artist and face analyzer (hey it's true!) is be good to your brows! If you can get your hair done, nails done, dog groomed, lawn mowed, car washed, clothes tailored...okay I am sure you get my point, get your brows maintained by a professional. Talk to them about your ideal look, if your brows will allow that, and if it makes you look natural, friendly, and approachable.

Stay Beautiful!

Please Note: There are professionals who use a razor technique similar to a barber, that is ok if and only if they have been professionally trained and have the proper equipment, lighting, etc. I know some professionals that use a razor technique and it look great; it is not my method of choice. I just don't suggest using a razor on yourself.
